My ex-wife promised our daughter a new kitten as a reward for shots at the doctor several months ago.

Yesterday they self- awarded this adorable little guy from the local humane society. His shelter name is Frankie, and my daughter hasn't decided what his permanent name will be.

My daughter had a traumatic couple of weeks before settling on this cutie pie. She had picked out a little female r/StandardIssueCat right before Christmas, but someone else turned in an application before ours and she lost that kitten.

She was heartbroken. According to my sobbing daughter she had "been waiting my whole life" (she's 7 and both her mother and I each have 3 cats, only 2 of which are older than our daughter).

So this adoption was successful and further overly dramatic declarations have been avoided (for the time being).

Frankie is settling in. The other three cats are not amused at this point, but they'll adjust.

The two old females are more used to new cats joining the family. The 1½ year old male, not so much.

TheCortisolCorvid As someone who begged for a kitten from the age of approx 3 until I got mine at 10, there's something really special about growing up with them after it feels like you have wanted them your whole life. Please take lots and lots of pictures of both Frankie and your daughter (especially them together!) They'll be appreciated as an adult.
